The Middle School German Instructor will join a team of dedicated educators to support the academic and social-emotional development of the students they serve. The position will require the successful candidate to teach German to native speakers in grades 5-8 to ensure a successful transition back to the German educational system after 3-5 years. Additionally, the successful candidate may serve as an advisor to a core group of students to nurture and guide the development of the whole child.  

Responsibilities:

Instruct German based on the “Lehrplan fuer Gymnasien in Bayern” to German native speakers in grades 5 through 8
Identify and organize textbooks, resources, and other materials needed for instruction
Differentiate for students of diverse academic levels and backgrounds
Possess strong content and pedagogical knowledge and stay abreast of new curricular developments in the German educational system
Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction
Maintain and communicate high academic and personal expectations for all students
Build a positive classroom culture that supports joy, active learning, and the school’s core values
Continuously assess students’ progress and use data to inform instructional decisions
Communicate consistently and openly with families to build an effective school-home partnership to guide them through their international journey
Nourish relationships with the German educational system
Participate in school events and function as a cultural liaison

Anforderungsprofil

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

Minimum of “Erstes Staatsexamen” (1st State’s Exam for teachers) or Masters degree in German as a native language 
Ability to teach German to native speakers based on the curriculum for Gymnasium in Bavaria (“Lehrplan fuer Gymnasien in Bayern”)
Teaching experience in a Middle School setting is preferred, but not required
Excellent communication and collaboration skills; tact in dealing with parents, faculty, staff, and students
Ability to exercise good judgment and comply with school standards
Commitment to modeling the mission and values of Christ Church Episcopal School
